The Tales of Two Baby Showers Pt. 2 - Gloria

Two baby shower cake in a week, haven't done that in ages!  This is a cake for a work baby shower for a colleague.  It was sort of a surprise, but she knew that we are throwing her one.  It would have been near impossible to hide it from her.
It's a baby Simba cake from Lion King.  The cake topper is made out of fondant and gumpaste.

Smiley face - 2 hr cake challenge?

So, 2 hours for a cake (except for cooling time - of course! :)) No problem!
I'm not much of a procrastinator but hey! it happens specially when it is a very
simple cake.  Simple cakes are the hardest! I'm like.. "no sweat!" I can do that tomorrow!!! So, I baked... 45 mins at 2:00am
Left it too cool as I am thawing my butter overnight  (didn't count)
I made the buttercream - 30 mins at 6:00am
Iced cake - 15 mins
fridged to set the buttercream whilst I have breakfast (didn't count)
fondant and decorate - 30 mins
---total time 2 hours---

The Tales of Two Baby Shower Pt. 1 - Paola

Wow! It's been awhile since my last posting.  It has been a CRAZY year.  No time to post so I'm looking forward updating my blog.  Let's start with a Baby Shower for a soon-to-be-born Baby Boy!

Kaliah`s Bear

Wow, December 2010 came and gone too fast.  Just like that *finger snap* it`s January 2011.  Happy New Years to everyone!  After 22 dozen cupcakes this December and a few cakes, I`m ready to hang my apron and take a vacation. I keep telling my hubbie that this is my last cake, my last dozen but it seems that they kept coming and I AM such a big softie!  But, a last minute call from a mom of a baby girl (whose celebrating her 1st bday)... as a Mom of 2, I couldn`t say no. I hope they like it...

Starring Elmo!

Cake No. 2

A friend of the family is celebrating the 1st Birthday of their grandson, Dominic.  A short notice and I've committed for 2 cakes already, But, I can't say 'no' to them as they are super nice!  And, who says no to an Adorable boy? Not me! I am a softy!

They wanted a Sesame Street cake with Elmo as the star!  After a few drafts, a couple of changes... here is the final design.

Baby Shower Cake

Busy weekend this week.  It seems everything comes in 3s.  3 life changing news and 3 cakes!   On Wednesday, I was in panic mode but it all worked out as I had a cancellation.  Whew! Sometimes, you must look at the brighter side of things.
This cake is requested by a friend also named Christine for a Baby Shower.  She requested Vanilla and Mango.  I got the cradle idea from another  fellow blogger but I added my own spin on it, will credit her when I remember where I got it from. I decided to add the ruffles, ribbons and bows.  The pillow and babe is made out of gumpaste.  I was just going to fill the cradle with baby things but I decided to to make a baby boy.  The swaddle, I had to play around with and the baby pin has a non edible material, floral wire.

Love! Love! Love!

So, our 8th wedding anniversary just passed and I want to make a cake that symbolizes the 3 most important people in my life.  I do love pastels and this cake is so versatile!  Think baby shower, birthdays etc!! Hope you like it too!

Cait's 6th Birthday

I have been always intrigued by anything creative.  I am easily inspired by the things and people around me. My first introduction to the culinary arts was when I am 7 years old.  I remembered wanting a snack and my grandma, Lola, told me to make it myself.  I chop a potato, sprinkle it with salt (I thought it was salt but it was MSG, Yuck!) and I fried it on her wok.  I learned that hot oil hurts and that I can cook! I spent countless hours watching my grandma cook.  But, my eyes opened to bigger and better things when I saw my mom make Coconut Macaroons.  When she made a Taro (Ube) Cake, I fell in love with baking!

Below is the first fondant cake I made.  I took the "fondant" class at my local Michaels and I never looked back.
