Don & Su Wedding Cake

Wedding cake theme is Parisian.  I want the cake to have a classical Parisian feel so after an afternoon meeting to brainstorm... Here's the end result

Pokemon Theme Party

I had not posted in awhile, be prepared... I have a few post to do!  First, Ty's 5th birthday.  Pokemon theme party featuring pokemon friends cake and pokeball cake pops.
Vanilla Cake with Vanilla buttercream

It's a love and hate relationships with cake pops, it's the only kind of cake I eat (must be because of the chocolate outer shell) but it's a labour intensive process.

Bake the cake, make the buttercream, shape the pops, freeze, melt chocolate, dip the pops, dry, decorate, dry some more and decorate then dry some more.

But, seeing how the kids love it... it's all worth every effort!

Thanks and hope you enjoyed it!

Hello Kitty Cake and Party Theme

Caitlyn's 7th Birthday and here are the photos of the cake table, snacks, cake pop and cake. This particular client is a very, very important one, as my daughter, she was not shy telling me what she wishes on her cake.  In fact she drew my a sketch of the cake.

One of her favorite thing to do is cloud watching. And I won't pass up the opportunity to incorporate this on her cake.  It took me 3 days to shop, prep, bake and decorate the cake, cake pops and other snacks.  It's tiring but worth every effort!

Precious, Rea!

Courtesy of Maricar, Rea's Aunt, she kindly emailed me pictures of the cake and cupcakes.  Her reaction was so precious! I'm glad she loved her cake, I had fun doing it.
Thanks Maricar for the gorgeous pictures!

Rea's Tinkerbell Cake

Hello everyone!  Just wanted to share my latest project with you all.  I have been working with Maricar, Rea's Aunt, for a couple of months now and today... I finished her tinkerbell cake.

At first, it was a different cake altogether, tinkerbell theme but similar to one of the cakes I've done previously.  here's the sketch...

Then, I found a topper (instead of gumpaste which was more costly due to the labour involved).  I emailed this photo.  I believed Rea preferred this photo, so we switched the design to this one...
(I didn't make this one :))

With further ado, here's the finished product and the cupcakes that went with tink..

Hope you have a wonderful 7th birthday, Rea!

Natalie's Present Cake

I love, love the opportunity to improve on a previous cake.  It's the perfectionist in me that wants to make it better, improve and make it perfect!!!  Well, not perfect maybe but close, very close.   I got an email about this particular cake that I've done before and love, love the new colour combo! A pretty cake!

Received many request what my sketches look like and I will try to post them here in the blog.  Here's the cake sketch for the 'Natalie' cake.

Oops! forgot the tag detail that we spoke about so... Here's quick, very quick draft sketch of the cake.

I thought it's pretty close the sketch.  And, I hope you like them!

Couch Potato Cake

Okay.. I was not so sure about this cake at first.  Yes, it's very humorous! But, I never tried a cake like this before.  This was the first time I played around with RKT (Rice Krispy Treats).  In the end, I had fun with this cake, glad I made it and it was a good challenge.

Harris' Golf Cake

Lesson learned:  If you are committed to a cake... do not procrastinate! I had two hours to assemble, cover and decorate this cake.  Various things keeping popping up.  I'm so relieved that this cake turned out so cute!

Kaliah`s Bear

Wow, December 2010 came and gone too fast.  Just like that *finger snap* it`s January 2011.  Happy New Years to everyone!  After 22 dozen cupcakes this December and a few cakes, I`m ready to hang my apron and take a vacation. I keep telling my hubbie that this is my last cake, my last dozen but it seems that they kept coming and I AM such a big softie!  But, a last minute call from a mom of a baby girl (whose celebrating her 1st bday)... as a Mom of 2, I couldn`t say no. I hope they like it...

Aquarium Fish Theme Cake

Got a last minute request for an aquarium hobbyist. I'm not much of a 'fish person' and my little daughter can attest to this.  "There is no fish that looks like that!", she said.  I replied, "In my imagination... there is!".  I had loads of fun making this cake and hopefully they liked it too!

Chocolate Cake with coffee buttercream.
Completely edible.

Grace and Grace

My bro-in-law's friend, Grace, wanted a cake for Grace - another friend.  They are practically family-they've been friends since the old ages! LOL :)  Anywhoo, it's a 10th year anniversary cake... a replica of their wedding cake.

My replica.

It's made out of  light and airy Vanilla Chiffon, fresh and local raspberry infused syrup and natural raspberry Italian meringue buttercream.  I also wanted to try something I never have before, instead of dirty icing or crumb coating the tiers - I made some White Chocolate Ganache and covered the cake.

I hope they like it!

Velvet Dreams

It's been awhile... busy with other things.  I made this batch of Red Velvet with Cream Cheese Frosting for my daughter's teachers and my hubbie's co-workers.  I will find reason to bake!  This recipe is delish!  The cake has a hint of chocolate.  Yummy!

Alyssa's Birthday

So, my friend, Alyssa turned 32!  I asked her daughter, Jaimie, what kind of cake her mom would like? Colour? Flower?  Jaimie answered, purple, ladybugs and daisies!

Fondant and chocolate (cupcake wrapper) cake.  Vanilla and White Chocolate Buttercream with Vanilla bean syrup.  Yummy!

Banana Cupcake with Cream Cheese Buttercream

Cait has been asking me to make her some banana cake to take to school as a recess snack.  So I made a double batch of Moist Banana Cake with Cream Cheese Buttercream.  I am not a big Cream Cheese desserts.  I find them to dense and strong tasting.  But I do love cream cheese on savory dishes.  For mother's day I made my mom some pistachio cheese cake and it was pretty good!
I had to play around the portion of c.cheese and icing sugar as I wish it to have a hint of c. cheese without overpowering the banana. It is so YUMMY!

Black and White Classic!

There something about a black and white cakes that screams classic!  It always reminds me of the classic 'Sabrina' movie with Audrey Hepburn.  Could it be the glorious black Givenchy dress?  How about topped with a classic and simple White Anemone flower?

I wanted to make a simple and classic cake donation for a silent auction and here is what I came up with inspired by P. Porschen.

I can't resist sharing another one... One of the cake designs that I made from the cake class with Cheft Maurizio P. from Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts.

How many cakes can you make in a Day?

I don't know about you but I think 4 is way to much.  That is the number I have to bake, assemble and decorate for the Spring Fair.  In between the baking and cooling, I have 2 kids to care for, referee and entertain.  Thank goodness for Pokemon!  I still have one more Very, Very Special cake to make for someone :D... it's a surprise!  I will post pictures on Sunday!

Happy Mother's Day!

What did I want for Mother's Day? A day-off, of course!  I spent the afternoon making 2 cakes without interruptions from the kids courtesy of DH (dear Husband!)

Winn's Roses

It's my mother-in-law's, Winnifred's, birthday and I was stumped.  I did not really know what to get her so I baked her a cake.  I wanted to try doing Gum Paste roses.  I tried two techniques in this cake, the single cutter and the five petal rose method.  Since, it was my first try in doing GP roses, I don't have a preference yet.  It was a surprise birthday party and we ate at my Uncle's, Pin Pin Restaurant.  I was so stuffed I could barely move! Awesome food and service :)
Here is a closer view of the bouquet of roses.  The single petal example is the bottom-middle right side and the five petal method is the one on the top left rose. It turned out beautifully and Winn loved her cake!

Another lesson learned and Miah's 22nd!

It has been a very busy week. Lots of things going on. Bam! Before I knew it, projects due! So many little things went wrong but that is the GREAT thing about creating... You create even if it does not go your way! Well, here is the picture of the "wood flooring". I let this dry for a few days and the only thing I actually did in advance.
Fondant cake board, painted with gel food colour

Another reminder to myself? if in doubt add alittle more.   I short changed myself when I rolled my fondant and ended up rolling it too thin which caused tearing.  Fortunately, It teared on spots I could cover.  What a relief!

Hope Jeremiah likes his cake!  Mocha Chocolata Cake with Chocolate Swiss Buttercream!
Rich and delicious!

Debbie's Wedding Cake

*Sigh* Finally, after 3 days of shopping, prepping, baking, icing and decorating... it's finally done.  My first attempt on a wedding cake.  For my first time, I did not do too bad.  I can see ALL of the tiny imperfections  or improvements that I need to make for my second but this is a good learning curve and since it's my family, they would be more forgiving.  But, they all love the cake, I received an arm full of compliments and most importantly, it tasted great! Now, I know what to expect and stream line production - overall I am very happy with the result.
Deb emailed me with a photo and she wishes to replicate it.  After a few flavour changes, we decided to do an Espresso Cake with Mascarpone and Chocolate Buttercream with Rum Syrup.  It tasted like a Tiramisu with a twist!  We had a blast, great food, good company and a Yummy Dessert!
